The Nevada Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities will be hosting the 2025 Legislative Training and Developmental Disabilities Awareness Day at the Legislature on March 3 & 4. We invite Self-Advocates and their family members to attend the Day at the Nevada State Legislature to learn more about the Nevada Legislative process, meet with key policy makers/Legislators, sit on the Assembly and/or Senate floor, witness testimony on key issues, and explore Legislative grounds.
The training opportunity that will provide you with information on how to identify and discuss key issues with your Legislators, and to learn more about the Nevada Legislative process. Please indicate on your registration if you will be attending the training day.
Southern Nevada attendees will be arriving in Carson City on Sunday, March 2. Breakfast and Lunch will be provided on the 3rd and 4th. All out of town attendees will return home on Tuesday, March 4th. Southern Nevada attendees will have the option to take a charter bus to and from Las Vegas.
For those outside of Carson City and Southern Nevada, we are offering mileage reimbursement. Please contact Council staff to receive the form for this request.
This is a FREE event!
Unfortunately, we do not have additional funding for other expenses at this time.
The training will take place on March 3rd with the location to be announced from approximately 9 AM – 12 PM. Breakfast and check in start at 8:30 AM. We will be providing transportation to/from the Hotel in Carson City for those staying there starting at 7:30 AM until 8:30 AM. All transportation past this time, will be at the expense of the participant. You are also welcome to take the short 10-minute walk from the hotel to the meeting space.
The DD Awareness Day will be on March 4th and will take place in room 3100 and the front foyer of the Nevada Legislature in Carson City Nevada. The events will take place starting at approximately 8 AM and lasting until 2 PM. Details and agendas will be handed out in person the day of the event but will also be available online.
Lastly, there will be DD Awareness Day swag available for each person that attends the event. Please see the NGCDD Staff to retrieve yours.

Sunday, March 2, 2025 – Travel Day for out-of-town attendees!
Bus Pick up: All Attendees traveling from Las Vegas to Carson City via Bus. Several attendees in wheelchairs will be traveling via Southwest. Your travel will be sent separately and the information below for bus travel does not apply.
Bus attendees should plan to bring all food, beverages, medication, supplies, light blankets and pillows, or other comfort items that are necessary. Outlets will be available to charge any needed devices, but participants must bring their own chargers. There is a restroom on the bus, but occasional stops will be made to allow participants to stretch their legs, get a to-go bite to eat, or use additional restrooms. Please understand that this ride is anticipated to take approximately 6 hours, not including the time needed for stops.

Monday, March 3, 2025 – DD Awareness Day Training Day!
This training day will take place in the Guinn Room, Old Assembly Chambers, State Capital Building (The one with the silver dome on top). This is located at 101 N Carson Street, Carson City, NV 89701. Parking is available both north of the Capitol and surrounding the Legislative buildings. Please park in the location that best fits your accessibility needs. Accessible parking spaces are available in all parking lots.
- 7:30 am to 8:00 am – Breakfast on the Go! Please grab your breakfast outside of the training room and proceed to check in for the training. Please note this breakfast is coffee, juice, and donuts. If you require additional nutrition, you can purchase food at the Battle Born Café in the Legislature or other breakfast places around downtown. Please note, the café opens at 7 AM. Please plan to be ready to start learning at 8:30 AM sharp!
- 8:00 am to 8:30 am – Check-In for Training outside of the Guinn Room, Old Assembly Chambers, 101 N Carson Street, second floor.
- 8:30 am – 11:00 am – Legislative Training
Lunch @ the Legislature (rm 2200) Please proceed to the main Legislative building for lunch. We encourage you to get your food and eat before you choose to socialize. Due to strict scheduling of Legislative hearings, we will transition to the committee hearings at approximately 12:35 PM. Assemblywoman Brown-May has requested that anyone interested in attending the Assembly Health and Human Services Committee please feel welcome to do so. We request that if you’d like to make any public comment, that you prepare these remarks prior. Keep in mind, this will be limited to 2 minutes each. We hope those that have never testified before, will take this opportunity to do so. Due to the number of attendees anticipated, we will rotate people quietly through the hearing room. Please remain quiet and respectful of their time. Additionally, the Assemblywoman will be making comment signifying our presence for the events this week.
- 11:30 am – 12:30 pm – Lunch for all Training Attendees and invited guests in room 2200 at the Legislature. This is the room directly outside of the Capitol Café.
- 1:00 PM – Assembly Health and Human Services Committee, Room 3138, please be outside of room 3138 by 12:40 PM.

If you are not interested in attending the Assembly Health and Human Services Committee. There are several other committee options available. Please visit the Legislative calendar or Council staff to discuss what measures are being heard in each committee. We can help you determine what topic would be best for you to attend.

Our World in Our Words Film and Panel Questions, Automobile Museum, 1 Museum Dr, Reno, NV 89501
We ask that everyone registered to attend the Our World in Our Words film screening, please depart the Legislature by 3 PM so you can return to the hotel in time to freshen up before the bus departs. If you are driving yourself, please see the agenda below for event timing. Transportation is available on a first come, first served basis and registration is required prior. There is no cost to attend this event.
- 4:00 pm – Pick up for Automobile Museum – Front of Federal Hotel
- 4:15 pm – Depart Hotel
- 5:00 pm – Drop off @ Automobile Museum
- 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm – Doors Open to Automobile Museum and Appetizers served. Attendees will be able to enjoy the Automobile Museum prior to the start of the film at no charge.

- 7:30 am – Vendor Check-In ONLY. Guests should not plan to arrive prior to 8:00 am.
- 8:00 am – Check-In at the Nevada State Legislature, Room 3100, 401 S. Carson St., Carson City, NV 89701
- 8:00 am – 9:00 am – Breakfast served in 3100 for attendees and invited guests.
- 9:00 am – Group Photo in Foyer. We will be taking a group photo in the front foyer of the Legislative building. Please be downstairs no later than 8:55 AM, to ensure that you do not miss the photo opportunity.
- 8:00 am – 12:00 pm: Vendor Fair Room 3100. Please visit the vendor tables and learn about disability related services in our state.
- Lunch will be available from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM for attendees and invited guests (Legislators and their staff) in Room 3100 at the main Legislative building.
- 8:00 am – 2:00 pm: Committee/Floor Sessions and Meetings with Representatives. Please see below the schedule of committees and floor sessions for the event.

Floor Sessions: Please refer to your folder or Council staff to determine which floor you will be seated on. Everyone that has requested a meeting with their representative will also be seated on the floor. You will be split between both houses (Senate and Assembly). You are not guaranteed to sit with your assigned representative but will sit with a member of the Legislature. Please contact staff for any questions. Please plan to provide a brief bio of yourself and your family for the member that you will be sitting with. Please print this and bring this with you!
All others not sitting on the floor will need to be at the gallery of their floor of choice at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the session. Please select the house you’d like from the choices below.
- 11:00 AM: Senate Floor Session, First Floor North Side – Senate Floor attendees please arrive at the Senate Sergeant at Arms at 10:30 AM.
- 11:30 AM: Assembly Floor Session, First Floor East Side – Assembly Floor attendees please arrive at the Assembly Sergeant at Arms at 11:00 AM.

Bus Departs Hotel for Las Vegas at 3:00 PM. For those traveling on the bus, you will need to check-out and put your luggage on the bus prior to departing for the Legislative Building for Advocacy Day. Please ensure you are back at the hotel no later than 2:30 PM to ensure an on-time departure.
EVERYONE:
Please plan to prepare any public testimony or comments prior to day of the event. You may consider providing information on who you are, the person/group you represent, and any proposed needs from the Legislature. You will have the opportunity to refine your comments during the Legislative training on Monday. We encourage you to practice prior and ensure that your comments are within the 2-minute time frame requirement. Note, this is your time to tell them the most important things they should consider when drafting legislation. If you need assistance, don’t hesitate to ask for guidance.
